Abstract EN

The current study aimed to identify the rumors in social media and their influence on community security from the perspective of students in Princess Rahma University College.

The social survey methodology by sample was used, where the questionnaire was the study tool and the data was collected through a sample consisted of (144) students from all specializations.

To analyze the data, the study used descriptive statistics and advanced statistics such as tests of variance analysis to find out the differences and statistical significance of the study variables.

The results showed that the most prevalent social networks and spread of rumors was the Facebook firstly and secondly was the Whatsapp, and that the most common types of rumors through social networks were; firstly the social rumors and secondly the political rumors and thirdly the economic rumors, and the least common rumors were the religious.

The results also showed that the influence of rumors in social media on community security were more influential in the economic side, the results showed that the most important ways to reduce the impact of rumors on community security was by media awareness followed by activating the role of the educational institutions and universities in clarifying the dangers of rumors.

Furthermore, the results indicated that there were statistically significant differences in the influence of rumors in the political side attributed to the gender and in the favor of females while the results did not indicate that there were statistically significant differences attributed to the specialization.
