Abstract EN

This paper discusses the evolution of Egyptian-Syrian relationship during a very delicate and critical moment in time; when “The Chtura meeting, August 1962” was held following a complaint by Syrian Government against the United Arab Republic (UAR), back then, about what was considered an unacceptable intervention by Gamal Abdel Nasser and Egyptian Intelligence within Syria.

To accurately comprehend the events of this heated conference, this study dug deeply into the Egyptian-Syrian relationship since the fall of the union (UAR) following a Syrian military coup in 28th September, 1961, discussing Mamoun al-Kuzbari & Maarouf Al-Dawalibi efforts in terminating the Union and cancelling all its effects completely, resulting in a confusion in internal Syrian situation where there were both approvers & refusers.

The study also mentions a “corrective” Syrian military coup in 28th March 1962 circumstances, followed by the formation of Bashir AI-Azma government and its endeavors to approach Egypt, which was not well- received, but rejected and attacked.

And as the Egyptian interventions continued, Bashir Al-Azma Government had to post another complaint against the UAR in the Arab League, resulting in the “Chtura meeting”, the main headline in this study, and its fallouts.
