Abstract EN

The study examined the analysis and evaluation of the reality of reference services in six medical libraries in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, using the descriptive-analytical approach, in listing reference services and their patterns in those hospitals, as well as determining the type of difficulties that these libraries face, and what are the ways and means that can be taken to solve those Difficulties, the study also examined the existing equipment in those libraries and their suitability for the evolution taking place worldwide in the field of libraries.

The study concluded with several results, including that the number of employees in these hospitals was to a certain extent appropriate, except the Security Forces Hospital Library, which proved that the study suffers from a severe shortage in the number of specialized personnel, and also found that the infrastructure and equipment in these hospitals were appropriate, As for the quality of reference services, it was largely good in all libraries except for the service of using text messages to respond to inquiries and the use of librarians for social networks in communicating with beneficiaries.

The study concluded to develop many recommendations that can improve the quality of reference services in those libraries, and one of the most important of these recommendations was the need to develop library collections using various electronic information sources commensurate with the needs of beneficiaries, as well as the need to pay attention to creating sites for those libraries on the Internet.
