Abstract EN

This paper aim to talk about Oman-which had a distinguished position, which no other Arabic country in Arabic gulf could have - and its impact in the international relations and conflicts in the late eighteenth century.

The study focused on the Anglo - French competition in India’s seas during the period between (17981810), which named Napoleonian period in the Middle East that started with French campaign on Egypt 1798, and ended by the loss of French to the island of Mauritius 1810.

The study of Oman’s role in the Anglo - French conflict in the East during this period through the documentary resources has a great importance as a model in understanding the reality of the policy of the colonial powers in an effective part of the Arab region to achieve their expansionist ambitions after the economic and industrial developments there.

The political and strategic importance of the Arabic Gulf increased by the appearance of the Indian Empire in the late Eighteenth century.

The gulf transformed to one of the main Eastern English policy resources, which aimed to secure the road to India and prevent any major power to impose control on the Red Sea and the Gulf.

As well as this study gives a close - up on the policy of Oman’s rulers and their try to committed the neutrality in the Anglo - French conflict ,and this was so difficult because of the strategic and geographical location of Muscat which made it a good goal of Anglo - French competition to gain its support.

Away from talking about the details of the political developments that the country experienced during this period as the researcher just referred to it, and the study ends by showing some conclusions reached by the researcher.
