Abstract EN

This research paper attempts to study the impact of public expenditure on the levels of economic growth in Algeria for the period 1990 to 2017 by trying to find an equilibrium relationship between the variables studied in the long and short terms.

To conduct this research we based ourselves on the econometric method, and used the EViews.8, one of the latest software used in such studies.

We have determined that the Wagner Law can be applied to the Algerian economy in the short term only, since there is a direct positive relationship between the volume of public spending and the production levels achieved during the period under study.

In fact, the increase in expenditures by 1% has led to an increase of economic growth by 1.21%.

However, this law proved ineffective in the long term, as the increase in the level of public expenditures by leads to a decrease in GDP by 2.036%, This is due to the absence of management strategies and directing public expenditure towards the productive sectors, as part of a policy of good governance in managing economic activities in order to achieve the overall development goals.
