Abstract EN

The aim of this study is to highlight the impact of fiscal and monetary policies on the employment demand in the Algerian economy at the macro and sectoral levels.

To achieve this goal, the VAR approach was adopted based on an annual data series covering the period 1980-2016.

The results showed that Algeria's fiscal policy has an impact on employment growth, both at the macro and sectoral level.

The results of Granger causality test show an effect of fiscal policy through the government expenditure tool on labor in one direction.

On the other hand, the results showed the absence of this relationship between supply of money and labor in both directions.

The results of the response functions varied from one sector to another, but the service sector was the most responsive to the government expenditure policy, which acquired a significant percentage of the impact, and the estimates of the analysis of variance showed the limited and weak contribution of monetary policy shocks in explaining the situational fluctuations of employment in Algeria because the main objective of monetary policy is to maintain a low inflation and the monetary stability.
