Abstract EN

During the modern period, many scientific families have emerged in Touat territory which is situated in the Western South of Algeria.

A Scientific family is the family where knowledge has been sequenced in its children and has been inherited to sons and descendants from their parents and grandparents.

Among the most prominent scientific families during the modern period were El-Bekri family, Tenlali family and El-Belbali family.

Our Study’s topic is “The Tenlali family scientists and their scientific and religious role”, knowing that this family consists of two main branches: the first branch is represented by Sheikh Ahmed Ben Youcef and his descendants, and the second one is represented by the descendants of Mister Maarouf Ben Youcef.

This family has gained wide fame in Touat, where the number of its scientists from both branches exceeded fifteen scientists and religious Scholars who had established three quicksilvers )1( (Zaouïas) to spread knowledge and charity.

They had contributed to teaching, writing, fatwa, orating, judgeship and other activities which intervene the scientific and religious domains.
