Abstract EN

Prince Abd-el-Kader worked on organizing the country after he realized the reality of the French colonial project.

He divided the country into administrative districts where he appointed the successors to organize the national popular resistance in order to preserve the safety of the Algerian people and work on crystallizing a unitary project aimed at confronting the dangers of the French occupation forces.

The first province that was formed is Tlemcen Province, which was governed by the Caliph Mohammad Bouhmidi alWalhassi in 1834.

The efforts of the Caliph Bouhmidi to organize his province, from the administrative and military aspects, are embodied in his endeavour to prepare the army and provide weapons, so as to confront the French occupation forces in battles and altercations, and to repel colonial expansion and criminal acts against the Algerian people, meant to eliminate them and extinguish their resistance spirits, the center of their unity.
