Abstract EN

Sanctions of deprivation of liberty are still the applicable penalty in Algeria, which has been proved by a penitentiary Center statistics.

Given the negative effects of these penalties and high annual prison expenditures, the Algerian state has sought through justice sector reform and modernization, to develop alternative sanctions-public works-private penalties of imprisonment, freedom and make reintegration a central goal.

Public interest work penalty is a modem system of its kind, where the Algerian legislature has adopted the amended 2009 Penal Code, for this system to have proven, benefits of prison society condemned promiscuity, spare thoughtfully because it distances a socially relative to the rehabilitation without entering the correctional system, as economic advantage of this State by making use of the free services carried out by the prisoners.

This study aims to identify penalty work for the public interest and to determine the legal framework, in addition to addressing the economic impacts.
