Abstract EN

This study is entitled «The Methods of Combat in International Humanitarian Law".

The rules of international humanitarian law organizing the means and methods of combat in wars in order to achieve a balance between legitimate military action and humanitarian objective which is to alleviate the suffering of individuals, especially the civilians.

These rules make restrictions on the methods and means of warfare, these restrictions apply on type of use of weapons, and how to use it and apply to all actions of the parties involved in armed conflict.

The principle of distinction requires the parties to armed conflict to distinguish at all times between combatants and military objectives on the one hand, and the civilian population and civilian objects on the other hand, and then direct military operations against the legitimate military objectives and not to others.

This study will be limited to search the rules applies to methods of combat only not the means of combat.

Methods of combat simply could be defined as the arts, plans and tactics used in combat operations on land, sea and air.

Thus, this study aims to identify and confirm these rules in the light of established conventional and customary international humanitarian law ،and divided in three sections.
