Abstract EN

Two main approaches have been used to classify exchange rate regimes: the dejure approach which is based on the countries statements ,and de facto classifications based on their actions.

Starting in 1999, the International Monetary' Fund also began to report de facto—that is, observed—exchange rate regimes based on the IMF staff 's assessment of available information.

Other de facto classifications have been developed, the most commonly used in the literature are the basis of Levy-Yeyati &Sturzengger (2005) and Reinhart&Rogoff (2003).comparison of de jure and de facto regimes shows a fair number of discrepancies, in this spirit that we want, in this article, check the above discussion conducted in the case of Algeria.
