Abstract EN

The study discussed the semantic change in Arabic and Hausa languages and the problem of communication and misunderstanding that it creates for Nigerian learners in Sudan.

The theoretical framework of the study discussed the structure of both languages, the factors of semantic change, some examples of semantic change, the properties and the dialects of each language.

In the practical section, the researcher listed the vocabulary items and the expressions of each language and the change that it undergo, in addition to the expected problems that such change might causes.

The researcher used the descriptive and historical method to deal with the problem of the research and come out with a number of findings; the most important one is that, most of the semantic change between Arabic and Hausa in Sudan can be seen in narrowing the meaning.

Arabic vocabulary items used by Hausa in Nigeria are affected by Jurisprudential meanings and therefore less synonymous.
