Abstract EN

A survey program in soybean fields was conducted at Abu-Ghraib, Iraq, during 2002 to isolate some pathogenic fungi from the infected plants.

Several laboratory studies were carried out to isolate fungi from the seeds of four soybean cultivars , and to test the antagonistic activity of some Trichoderma isolates against some pathogenic fungi.

Eleven and six fungi were isolated from the seeds and infected plants, respectively.

The fungi Alternaria, Aspergillus and Penicillium were isolated from the seeds , and Fusarium lateritium from plants were found in all collected samples.

Also, three isolates of each fungal biocontrol agents T.

viride and T.

pseudokoningii were isolated from the seeds.

The results of the antagonistic activity of Trichoderma spp.

against F.

lateritium, Rhizoctonia solani and Macrophomina phaseolina using dual culture technique showed that the isolates T4, T6 and T7 had high antagonistic activity according to a standard numerical system.

In a greenhouse test, the fungus R.

solani showed highest abilitiy to infect the tested seeds and the decrease seed germination by 5.26 -15.8% with seedlings mortality of 100%.
