Abstract EN

The area of « Mascara » is characterized by the intensity of the effects associated with the old period, such as the era of prehistory and the Roman era, especially in the latter, which left a number of important sites that testify to the breadth and depth of the Roman spread in these areas such as Siq and Muhammadiyah and Hammam Bouhnefih and heroes and Other.

Among the cities founded by the Romans in the region, we find the current buildings, which were known as the Alamilaria, where they built a camp for one of their military teams since the end of the second century and the beginning of the third century AD in order to secure their borders in these areas and to prevent the danger of Moorish tribes against them .

This camp was transformed by a number of auxiliary factors into a city that gained the status of the Roman town and was known for its administrative development and economic prosperity thanks to its rich rural background.

It did not stop at this point, but it appears through organized excavations in the ruins of the city at the end of the nineteenth century that it became increasingly important to the French authorities and religious circles because of the Donatian church discovered, which included the remains of bishops, priests, deacons and nuns who were killed in Bloody clashes with the Catholics, buried in the basements below them, and a halo of holiness and reverence for them was added, making the city a shrine and a shrine to the Donatians spread in Western Caesarian Mauretania and even beyond.

The history of the city extended beyond the Roman era until the sixth century AD, and if the data on its status is not clear due to the generality of the texts and ambiguity.
