Abstract EN

This research investigates prohibition structures in Surah Taha from a pragmatic perspective, in order to explore the indirect Qur’anic meanings, i.e.

the intended meanings and the pragmatic functions of applying the prohibition structures into the Qur’anic discourse.

The research consists of two main parts; the first part is devoted to handle theoretical issues related to the identification of the notion and the term of prohibition, the clarification of the importance of prohibition into linguistic and rhetorical studies, and the clarification of prohibition status into the Theory of Speech Acts.

The second part is devoted to the analysis contextual use of prohibition structures via Surah Taha.

The data of analysis consists of six Qur’anic verses were selected from Surah Taha.

The research shows, among its other conclusions, prohibition structures serve the addresser to convey contextually his intentions precisely and powerfully.

The research, reveals, also, that prohibition structures implicates pragmatic functions, namely, tranquility (verses: 1and 3), patience (verse 2), solicitation (verse 4), consolation (verses 5) and sequences (verse 6).
