Abstract EN

A survey of mites on various plants was carried out in Lebanon during the period 1983-1997.

The study revealed the presence of 74 species including 55 identified species; 30 of them were recorded for the first time in Lebanon and three were described as new species.

The observed mites belong to different groups: Eight tetranychids, nine tenuipalpids, four tarsonemids, 13 tetrapodilids of the families Eriophyidae and Diptilomiopidae (Rhyncaphytoptidae), 13 tydeids, 17 phytoseiids, two stigmaeids, and one species of the families: Acaridae, Anystidae, Cheyletidae, Cunaxidae, Erythraeidae, Neophyllobiidae, and the super family Trombidioidea and the super cohort Oribatei Superiores.

The most destructive phytophagous mites were: Acalitus phloeocoptes, Aculops fycopersici, Aculus fockeui, A.

schlechtendali, Cenopalpus lineola, C.

wainsteini, Colomerus vitis, Eriophyes sheldoni, Eotetranychus carpini, Epitrimerus pyri, Panonychus ulmi, Phyllocoptes abaenus Phytonemus pallidus, Tetranychus cinnabarinus, T.

urticae and Tenuipalpus punicae.

The most abundant predatory mites were: Amblyseius scutalis, Phytoseius balcanicus, Pronematus ubiquitus, Typhlodromus invectus, T.

pyri and Zetzellia talhouki.
