Abstract EN

The various laws of the Arab family, including Algeria and Tunisia, have been subject to a number of amendments, following repeated calls by different groups to reflect the principle of gender equality, and thus addresses the extent to which Algerian and Tunisian legislators have taken this principle with regard to marital maintenance.

The study shows that there is a difference between the two laws, where the Algerian legislator went to what came by the Islamic law, making the wife's expense a duty on her husband.

As for his Tunisian counterpart, the wife was obliged to spend with her husband, thus reflecting the principle of equality.
