Abstract EN

There have been many studies about the importance of the experiences of countries, especially the Japanese one, as such experiences provide valuable lessons that can be used in building a modern state based on sound social, economic and political bases.

Given that, this study, which examines) Fukuzawa Yukichi 1835-1901), a notable Japanese intellectual and one of the pillars behind the success of the Japanese experience of reform during Meiji area.

Yukichi played a significant role in enlightening the Japanese society and its ruling stratum with modern ideas.

This paper is divided into three main parts.

The first part focuses on Yukichi's birth and upbringing)1835-1860).

The second sheds light on his foreign trips and their impact on crystalizing his cultural personality)1860-1868).

Finally, the last part presents the most notable amongst his enlightment ideas and opinions in various areas (1868-1901).
