Abstract EN

This study consists of three critical issues in Ibn Sallam’s book “Tabaqat Fuhoul Al; Shuara’”: 1) the origins of poetry, 2) its definition, and 3) the bias of the school.

In the first, Ibn Salllam’s discussion of the origin of poetry, especially his discourse of the reasons behind not comprehending the poetry of tribes, along with the loss of a lot of Arab poetry from his point of view, was presented.

With the text of Ibn Sallam being the basis upon which judgments are made, it becomes clear that the purpose of him mentioning the origins of poetry was nothing but implying it was falsified.

As for his definition of poetry, and after analysing his discussion of Arabs’ negligence of saying poetry, and the comment of Dr.

Nasser Al-Din Al-Assad, it is clear that Al-Jumhi had adopted a definition that he considered a standard and rule for founding an independent critical theory.

With regard to the school bias, I discussed critical and literary issues related to the Basra and Kufa schools, and the authenticity of narrators to conclude that the purpose behind this was to discuss the issue of falsification.
