Abstract EN

The study aims at shedding light on the principles which the U na- yyad caliphs depend upon in proving their legitimate right in caliphate and governorship.

They thought that God has chosen them for caliphate and governorship depending on the principle /Aljabr/ : the inescapability of fate or fatalism.

So, they were named by nicknames which suggest this status, so as to give this claim a sort of holly sanctity.

They also claimed that they are the legitimate relatives and inheritors of the caliph Uthman ibn Affan.

Therefore they have the right to governorship.

They used to enjoy an original Arab characteristicis.

They also come up with the theory of caliphate.

The Umayyads emphasize that caliphate does not suit anyone other than themselves.

They depend on poets, who used to be their spokesmen, to prove these theories.
