The research aimed to identifying the level of scientific thinking of biology department students /college of education /university of Mosul and its relationship with both variables; sex and stage.
The research sample included (128) students (males and females) of biology department / education collcge university of Mosul, in the year (2005-2006), and was of two stages; the forth and the first.
The forth stage consisted of 34 students (27 female and 7 male).
The first stage consisted of 94 students (64 female and 30 male).
The researcher got the help of scientific thinking-test made by Salih (1985) then the test was adjusted to Iraqi environment by AL- Salmany (2001) to be his research study.
After applying the study on the forth and first stage, there appeared the following results: 1.
The forth stage students were statistically superior to the first stage student in the scientific thinking-test specially in the field of explanation and identification of the problem.
2.
Biology Females students were statistically superior to male student in scientific thinking-test specially in identifying the problem and choosing the differences.
The researcher concluded that the level of scientific thinking of biology male students was very low, and that the forth stage student was better than that of the first stage students(male & female) , which indicates the effectiveness of biology curriculums and teaching methods adopted there to develop scientific thinking.
Nevertheless, this development was not as expected.
