The present paper deals with Mahmoud Dirweesh's book "The Diaries of Normal Sadness" which contains a collection of essays ranging from social to autobiographical pieces.

In this book, Dirweesh expresses his personal experience of suffering and sorrow under the Israeli occupation.

The style of the essays oscillates between poetry and prose wedding the directness and precision of prose to the elegance and metaphore of poetry.

The present paper is an attempt to discuss Dirweesh's achievement in this book of essays by analyzing four of the nine essays in the book to reveal their most idiosynchratic stylistic and formal aspects.
