Abstract EN

The study aims to deepen knowledge of the role provided by the financial expertise of the members of the audit committee as a main characteristic that leads to activating the role of the audit committee in the economic units.

Therefore, the research tended to highlight the role and importance of the financial expertise of the members of the audit committee, especially since the Iraqi legislator was not exposed to it when forming the audit committee and the extent of Its contribution to improving investment decisions.

By analyzing the published annual financial reports of a sample of the Iraqi banks listed on the Iraq Stock Exchange, which numbered (19) commercial banks, for the period (2012-2018).

For the purpose of measuring the financial experience of the banking audit committee, the sample of the study was used, the survey method was given, and the audit committee was assigned the number (1), If she has financial or accounting experience, and (0) otherwise, and a scale (Richardson, 2006 to measure the efficiency of investment decisions.

For the purpose of statistically testing the research hypotheses, the statistical program (SPSS V 20) was used to find out the effect and the size of the correlation between the variables.

Among the most important findings of the study is that the banks (the study sample) have financial and accounting expertise, as well as the existence of a statistically significant impact of the financial experience of the audit committee on the efficiency of investment decisions in Iraqi banks, The results of the study also demonstrated a significant decrease in the level of actual investment of the Iraqi companies under study.

Therefore, the researcher recommended the necessity of legislative bodies and professional organizations.

By activating the role of audit committees, especially scientific and practical experience, and stipulating the existence of a financial expert similar to the experiences of leading countries in the field of audit committees implementation, And the need to be careful when appointing members of the audit committee to choose those with the appropriate experience and qualifications.
