The effects of Bedouin influence on early Arabic criticism

Abstract EN

This article investigates early critical activities by Arab philologists in the eighth century C.E.

to answer the following questions: How did Bedouins language and culture influenced the works of philologist? Is it possible to find any systematic criteria or even the foundations of a literary theory in philological criticism? What were the features and characteristics of philological criticism in this era? The article analyses a number of critical productions authored in the eighth century C.E.

by both philologists and non-philologist critics and writers to revealed the extent to which these works employed systemisation and used criteria for the purposes of critical comparison.

It aim to discover trends and developments in authorship within philological criticism and particularly in the production of poetic compilations and the critical criteria employed in that era.

Finally the article summarises the criteria and features which represent the preferences of philological criticism with regard to the evaluation of the quality of poetry
