The provinces of Touat in the Algerian Sahara have a long-standing culture and a distinct heritage.

History has confirmed to the Touati individual his ability to adapt himself with the desert to ensure a decent living style.

Despite the cruelty of nature and the difficulty of life, he was able to create water resources, wells and a specific watering system known as 'Foqara' to have palms, plants and crops in his land.

The watering system known as 'Foqara' is among the material legacies that qualified the provinces of Touat to be leading in various areas of life.

This system is one of the oldest and strange techniques used in irrigation and watering in the world.

It is an eccentric engineering system in which its creators excelled in watering palm oases and have drinking water supplies from ancient times through generation until nowadays.

Thanks to Foqara's water, agriculture has flourished, palaces and bridges were constructed, the population settled and security, peace, trade and urbanism were prevailed.

In addition to this, Touat has became a tributary of religious, scientific, cultural, agricultural and commercial education.

It was distinct in the making of its glory aptly.

To preserve this legacy of extinction and loss, intellectuals and writers must employ it within the limits of their various literary works in order to preserve it and ensure its survival.
