A long time confined to the triangle of motivations (modesty, protection, adornment), starting from the second half of the twentieth century, clothing has undergone a new paradigm of apprehension; it is now perceived as a communivative fact (Flugel, 1950), a message generating an exchange of information (Kiener, 1956) or even a "good-for" language (Barthes, 1960).
Starting from the postulate that clothing is a process of cultural communication, we intend to engage in a reflection that aims to identify the particular established cultural traits of the Kabyle community through the different signs of the clothing language (materials, colours, figurative, manner of dress, etc.) by means of a semiotic approach.
The semiotic analysis undertaken on the basis of R.
Barthes' epistemological and methodological disquisitions on a sample of 05 Kabyle dresses revealed that the Kabyle dress is the visible and tangible trace of the social structure, rituals and ethnicity.

Cantonné pendant longtemps au triangle des motivations (pudeur, protection, parure), le vêtement a connu, à partir de la deuxième moitié du XXème siècle, un nouveau paradigme d'appréhension; se posant désormais comme un fait de communication (Flugel, 1950), un message engendrant un échange d'informations (Kiener, 1956) ou encore un langage "valant-pour" (Barthes, 1960).
Partant du postulat selon lequel le vêtement est un processus de communication culturelle, nous entendons engager une réflexion qui vise à dégager les traits culturels particuliers et figés de la communauté kabyle à travers les différents signes du langage vestimentaire (matières, couleurs, figuratifs, manière d'habillement, etc.
) par le truchement d'une approche sémiotique.
L'analyse sémiotique entreprise à partir des disquisitions épistémologiques et méthodologiques de R.
Barthes pour un échantillon de 05 robes kabyles a révélé que la robe kabyle (le vêtement) est la trace visible et tangible de la structure sociale, des rituels, de l'appartenance ethnique.
