Abstract EN

The current study aimed at identifying the level of creative thinking and its relationship with personal traits among gifted students in Saudi Arabia.

The researcher has applied descriptive correlation approach in the current study.

The study sample consisted of (214) male and female gifted students studying in (Hafr Al Batin, Braidah and Al Bukairiah) in Saudi Arabia.

The study sample was randomly selected from the total number of the students which amounts (583) male and female students during the second academic term of the academic year 2014-2015.in order to achieve the objectives of the current study two scales were developed by the researcher, namely: the level of creative thinking scale and personal traits scale to rate level of creative thinking scale and personal traits among the gifted students, and having verified the validity and reliability of both scales, they were applied on the study sample.

The results of the current study has revealed that the level of creative thinking was high in terms of the dimensions , where the dimension of addition of details “ scored the highest level, followed by the dimension “sensitivity to problems”, followed by “flexibility “then the dimension “originality”, while the dimension of “fluency” has ranked last.

The results of the current study have also revealed –in terms of the level of personal traits of the gifted students – that the dimension “nerviness” has scored the highest level , followed by the dimensions “depression”, “abstention”, “aggressiveness excitability”, “dominance” at a moderate level , “sociability” at moderate level ,and the dimension of “calmness” has ranked last.

The results of the current study has shown statistically significant differences in three creative thinking skills( fluency, originality and addition of details” in favor of females ,also statistically significant differences for the dimension of “flexibility” in favor of males, and statistically significant differences in the dimension of “addition of details in favor of females.

The results of the current study have also shown statistically significant differences in four creative thinking skills attributed to the variable “the academic stage”, and also have revealed statistically significant differences in all personal traits of the gifted students attributed to the variable “sex” in favor of male students.

The results have also shown statistically significant differences in five personal traits attributed to “academic stages”, namely (nerviness, aggressiveness, excitability, depression, dominance) in favor of intermediate academic stage.

The results also showed statistically significant differences in personal traits in favor of students at Hafr Al Batin region as compared to Braidah region.

The differences between the students of Hafr Al Batin region and the students of Al Bukairiah were also statistically significant in favor of the students of Hafr Al Batin, while there were no statistically significant differences between the students of Al Bukairiah and Braidah.

The results have shown a statistically significant inverse relationship between depression and fluency, and a statistically significant positive relationship between sociability and sensitivity to problems.

Finally, the results have shown a statistically significant positive relationship between calmness and flexibility skills.
