Abstract EN

We performed a retrospective study that examined the variation in needs for English teachers in Liwa ‘a Al Jama ‘a Directorate of Education in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in relation with demographic variables using the descriptive analytical approach.

Methods: Our sample size was 122 teachers.

We developed the scale of training needs for English language teachers, checking the psychometric properties of the scale, and applying the study in the first semester of the academic year 2019 / 2020.Results: We concluded that teachers have expressed low demand for both measurement strategies, assessment strategies and lesson planning.

We demonstrated that teachers reported medium demand for classroom management and organization, guidance, counseling and the need for training courses on teaching strategies.

We found that there is high demand for training courses on the use of technology in teaching.

Our results show that there are differences in the demands for training in planning, directing, counseling and the use of technology with different teaching experiences.

We also found that teachers differ in their training needs and favor those holding a postgraduate qualification than those holding BA degree.

The results also concluded that teachers differ in their training needs in the assessment strategies, classroom management, organization and favor of male teachers than female teachers.

This is in contrast to the demands for training courses in guidance, counseling and the use of technology which were more common in female teachers compared to male teachers.

Conclusion The study reached a number of recommendations: the need to pay attention to the development of some training needs or demands especially the use of technology in teaching.
