This article seeks to explain the cognitive shifts in studying the meaning by the standard deviation as it is demonstrated by the historical evolutionary trend which is exemplified in historical semantics by Michel Breal to the eventual immanent Semiotics with De Saussure.

This vision is best reflected by the shift from the historical usage of the phrase "the life of words" for Michal Bryan to the immanent usage of De Saussure of the phrase ''life of signs'', we could notice a real difference in the way the semiotics case is treated which also reflects a substantial difference between the historical Semantics and the immanent semiotics.
