Due to the environmental damage caused by industrial activity, industrial countries have begun to take an interest in environmental issues, enacting legislation and laws that hold industrial enterprises responsible for the damage they cause to the environment, and more attention to the environment was given when consideration had begun to reconcile environment and development, which led to the convening of many international conferences, the most important of which was the Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit in 1992, from which the concept of sustainable development has been integrated into the dimensions of development.

This has led the Algerian legislature to enact environmental protection laws, as well as a set of provisions to control industrial enterprises to promote such protection.
