Abstract EN

Except for a few notes and references represented by observers, geographers and historians, banditry as long as a socio-political phenomenon in Algeria has never been the subject of a specific study, especially with regard to the region of Setif.

Yet this most important phenomenon in the 19 th century by highly organized gangs, which constitutes a public danger and one of the most important obstacles to settlement operations.

The purpose of this article is the study of the different effects of this phenomenon in theregion of Setif, and to clarify the procedures adapted by the colonial authorities to punish those people who are classified * outside the law *, and who really form a new form resistance and protest against oppression.
