Abstract EN

The article deals with the most important practices and policies implemented by the French Colonial Administration in colonial Algeria, in the period stretching from the Third Republic to the start of World War One.

The Administration adopted on a colonial administrative system through which they controlled occupied Algeria.

They also enacted a series of acts and laws to change the tribal structure of the Algerian community through the establishment of individual ownership instead of collective property to facilitate land granting to French and Europeans settlers.

The latter flowed into the country seizing the most fertile lands and became the decision makers in colonial Algeria.
