يفتح فعل الترجمة في كتاب "أرابيسك: رحلة اللغة العربية إلى الغرب لصاحبيه : بسام بركة و هونرييت فالتر الباب على مسألتين هامتين أولاهما : تتبع المسار التاريخي لرحلة اللغة العربية من الشرق إلى الغرب و تبيين أهمية الأثر الذي تركته هذه اللغة في الحضارات التي تقاطعت معها.
و الثانية : تدقيق النظر في الألفاظ المهاجرة من اللغة العربية إلى الفرنسية ثم من الفرنسية إلى العربية مع الإشارة إلى محددات ضابطة تعين زمن دخول هذه الألفاظ أو خروجها أو انتسابها إلى فترة معينة و هي قضية تندرج ضمن مباحث الاقتراض المعجمية و الدلالية و التاريخية
