The "CEDAW" not only aims at the olute equality of women and men in the spheres of public life, but also extends to family life in accordance with Articles 2 and 16 of the Convention.

Since family law is a characteristic of Algerian society, Algeria has exercised its sovereign right to make a reservation on the provisions of these articles.

However, the provisions of international law indicate that any reservation to Articles 2 and 16 is incompatible with the object and purpose of the Convention and is therefore unlawful, which means that Algeria must fully implement the Convention.
