Abstract AR

Abstract EN

This study tackles immigration, identity, and acculturation.

In particular, the Arabic immigrant, as seen in the works of the Lebanese novelist Amin Maalouf's ''The Disoriented'' and ''In the Name of Identity: Violence and the Need to Belong'', carries a cultural heritage different from the cultural reality of the host country.

It is noted that origin identity introversion and its secludedness throws the immigrant into being culturally marginal and socially excluded, hence incomplete assimilation.

The introvert identity could not set itself in an appropriate environment of diversity and variation.

The solution out of this is to embrace a mixed and extrovert identity that respects the other, have an outgoing disposition, and merge into and within the culture of the other, but never abandon the motherland culture.

To socialize and fully integrate in the culture of the other, leaving whatsoever pertains to the motherland culture, is to turn into a human with no roots and no history.

Thus, to resolve this problem is to resort to ''acculturation'', through respecting the culture of host country with an addition to it, and also through respecting and assimilating the immigrant by the society.

Language, in this case, is the major actor that abridges the gap of understanding and acceptance between the immigrant and the society he migrates to
