Arabic word "Awal" has meanings and inflectional rules that deserve a separate research.

This paper aims at revealing its lexicographic root, its pattern and its common dictionary and contextual meanings.

It also aims at revealing its uses and its rules, which are related to parsing, morphology, definiteness, indefiniteness and gender.

It has been found that Awal has three morphological roots and six patterns.

The study also shows the relationship between the root and the meaning that root implies in addition to showing its various dictionary and contextual meanings.

The study reveals that Awal has two uses (as a noun and as a verb) and it describes all its inflectional rules when it is used as a noun and when it is used as a verb.
