During the colonial period, several Algerian intellectuals have contributed in writing and documenting the Algerian history through its various historical eras.

Even though they were unfamiliar with the rules of historical methodology, they were still able to form and produce historical materials that are still to this day used by researchers and students, while their major concern was to confront the colonial French School that decidedly seeked to obliterate the identity of the Algerians, as it considered these intellectuals to be inexpert with unknowledgeable sources and tried to indoctrinate them to have no history.
