Journalists' Attitudes Towards Law No.

175 of 2018 Regarding Anti-Cyber and Information Technology Crimes Concerning Journalistic Practices


The importance of this study stems from the need to know the views of journalists concerning Law No.

175 of 2018 Regarding Anti-Cyber and Information Technology Crimes, which is one of the most important laws in the modern media legislation.

This law addresses the fight against crimes committed on the Internet and hacking of press websites.

This study aims at identifying Journalists' attitudes towards journalistic work and related professional practices, and their views about the pros and cons of the law, ending with journalists' knowledge of procedural rules and legal articles and penalties applied to journalists.

The researcher utilized the survey method and questionnaire with a sample of 188 journalists divided into national and private newspapers.

The sample of the national newspaper, 86 from Al-Ahram newspaper, while the sample from private newspapers is divided into 53 journalists from Almasryalyoum, 15 journalists from Youm7, and 34 journalists from Albawabhnews.

The study shows that 74.5% of journalists have seen most of the articles in the law, but the journalists from the private newspapers emphasized that these articles are unclear and need more explanation.

While the journalists from Al-Ahram newspaper confirmed that the law has many advantages as it protects sources and protects society from fake news
