Abstract EN

Data were used over a period of 3 years from 2015 to 2017 for a sample of 10 firms in Algeria.

Three characteristics were identified for the board: the size of the board of directors, the Independence of the board and the séparation between the chairman and the général manager.

It was mesured by return on equity (ROE) and return on assets (ROA).

The results indicate that the Independence of the board and the séparation have a positive impact on the performance of firms of study, as for the size of the Board of Directors, the results revealed to a positive impact on performance.

This study is an addition to the literature concerning the Relationship between the characteristics of the board of directors and the performance of institutions in Algeria in particular.
