Abstract EN

The research aims at developing a vision of what the etymological dictionary of the Arabic language should be.

This dictionary has not yet been published despite its importance.

The study noted the ence of the etymological dictionary that mentions the pivotal meaning of the root from the Arabic library.

The study deals with the approach used by some linguists in trying to apply this to the lexicon, such as Ibn Fares, Dr.

Bent al-Shati, and Dr.

Muhammad Hassan Jabal.

The study then presents the proposed approach in the desired etymological dictionary.

The study has reached several conclusions, including: the need for an etymological dictionary of the Arabic language, because etymology is the most complete way to define the meanings of words.

It is also important in teaching languages for native and non-speakers; Etymology is not only useful, and effective, but it also is a fast word attack strategy.
