Abstract EN

The purpose of the present research is to answer several questions related to the study of techniques to slow down the narrative rhythm and its impact on the realization of the purposes of the novelistic discourse in Memories of the future by Salah Wali.

Does the novelist deliberately use specific narrative techniques, in the construction of the narrative rhythm, to slow down or accelerate time of narration? Does rhythm of the novel get formed in a mechanical way? Are there any motives for necessarily relying on techniques to slow down rhythm of the narrative? Do techniques of slowing down the narrative rhythm influence realization of the purposes of the novelistic discourse? The research concluded several results, including: - Techniques to slow narrative rhythm go beyond the techniques of scene and position set by Gerard Ghent to a third technique proposed by the study; (technique of question).

- Techniques to slow down the narrative rhythm have significantly influenced the presentation of the angle of vision in the content of the novel, and tried to achieve its goals.

- Salah Wali succeeded in accomplishing some of the different narrative functions of his discourse, such as the imaginary, delighting and the hermeneutic, which revealed the contradictions of the Arab reality by employing techniques to slow down the rhythm.

- Question technology represented one of the means of textual coherence in a narrative work by linking the question to the issues posed by the narrative itself.
