Abstract EN

The research aimed to identify the practices of parents in the family and community, and the most influential institutions in promoting citizenship values among Arab children.

The descriptive method was applied, and the research sample consisted of (741) parents of children in the Arab world.

A questionnaire was distributed as a tool for gathering information, which consisted of two parts; the first covers demographic data, and the second includes two areas: area one: parental practices in the family (18) statements, area two: parental practices in the community (12) statements, and a question to rate institutions that were most influential in promoting the citizenship values.

The research findings indicated that parental practices reflect positive attitudes towards their roles in promoting citizenship values practically, by identifying national symbols to children as the flag and the capital of the country, in addition to the major cities, national events, customs, traditions, and historical figures and others.

Furthermore, practices on promoting citizenship values in the community all came at a high level of relevance; evidence of parental interest reflected the values of citizenship a reality in dealings with all and around them.

As demonstrated by the sample responses, the family is the most influential in promoting citizenship values from the perspective of parents, followed by media, and finally school.

The research recommended: emphasizing the essential role of the family in enhancing citizenship values by showing a sense of pride and belonging to the country in front of the children, where family cannot play this role individually, but there must be collaboration with the school and media, taking into account the influence of the digital world’s and children’s vulnerability, which verifies the importance of this responsibility and cooperation to achieve these goals.
