Genuine stress incontinence tvt-o versus burch colposuspension

Female urinary incontinence is a common symptom.

The prevalence of which varies between 5-40 % of the female population according to the age group.

Burch colposuspension is a well-established operation for correction of stress urinary incontinence.

The TVTO fulfills the criteria of minimal invasive incontinence surgery' short hospital stay, early post-operative mobilization with no need for urinary catheterization or drains and short duration of operative technique, but on the other hand the overall cost is much more higher than the cost of Burch colposuspension.

The aim of this study is to compare the new urethropexy technique (TVTO) with the gold standard Burch colposuspension.

40 patients suffering genuine stress incontinence were included in this study 20 of them underwent TVTO and 20 underwent Burch colposuspension.

All patients were assessed clinically and by urodynamic studies pre-operatively and one month post operatively.

The result showed that TVTO procedure was highly effective in treatment of female genuine Stress incontinence.

The study showed also that the result of TVTO were comparable to the result of the gold standard Burch colposuspension.

From this study we concluded that TVTO appeared to be safe and effective surgical procedure but still the tape is very expensive.
