Intrauterine insemination is not a good choice for patients with long lasting unexplained infertility

Objective : to evaluate the effectiveness of IUI in cases of long-lasting unexplained infertility.

Design : A retrospective study.

Sitting: Al Azhar ART unit.

Patients and Method: Statistical analysis of 500 IUI cycles, carried out for patients with unexplained infertility, the outcome measures were occurrence of pregnancy in general and pregnancy outcome in relation to age of patients and duration of infertility.

Results : the pregnancy outcome in general was 14 % and 19.25 % for patient's underage of 30 years, 12 % for patients between 30-40 years and 0 % for patients above age of 40 years.

As regard duration of infertility, the pregnancy outcome was 18.18 % if duration of infertility less than 5 years and 10.7 if duration of infertility more than 5 years.

Conclusion: IUI is not a good choice for patients above age of 40 years and patients with long-lasting unexplained infertility.
