Delay and throughput are important metrics fornetwork performance.

We analyze the end-to-end delay of cognitiveradio ad hoc networks for two traffic models: backloggedand geometric, respectively.

By modelling the primary users asa Poisson point process and the secondary network deployingmultihop transmissions, we derive the closed-form expressionfor the end-to-end delay in secondary networks.

Furthermore, weoptimize the end-to-end delay in terms of the hop number andthe secondary transmission probability, respectively.

The rangeof the optimal hop number and the equation satisfied by theoptimal transmission probability are obtained for backloggedsource models.

The equation met by the optimal hop numberis presented for geometric source models.
