Understanding the effects of videogames on children and adolescents : a literature review

Videogames have become an extremely popular leisure activity among Children, adolescents and even adults, we spend notable amounts of time experiencing an increasing virtualization and rather unexpected ludification of the way we communicate, collaborate, learn, consume or entertain ourselves, the latest Analysis of the rapidly growing game market show that videogames are becoming the most frequently used 'interactive media' amongst all age groups and the world's largest entertainment medium capturing an ever increasing proportion of both youth and adult leisure time and energy, our primary aim through this paper is to identify the phenomenon, set a validated definition, then describe various types of videogames and the major elements that attracts players, in addition to the most generated consequences and impacts on children and adolescents.
