Synthesis and thermal stability study of new polyurethane resins Tahseen A. Al-Salim

A new monomer namely 2,2'-[ 4,4'- (propane-2,2-diyl) bis (4,1- phenylene) bis (oxy) diethanol, was synthesized and characterized .

This monomer was used to prepared a new polyurethanes PU-1 (polyurethane -1) and PU-2 (polyurethane -2) based on polyester polyol consisting of different wt% monomer with MDI (Methylene diphenyl diisocyanate) and TDI (Toluene diisocyanate).

The thermal stability of the prepared resins has been evaluated by TG.

Several parameters involving the initial decomposition temperature (Ti), tha activation energy ( E) and the rate of decomposition ( R).

These parameters showed that the thermal stability of PU-1 and PU-2 increased with increasing consisting of investigated monomer, that PU-2 was more stable tan PU-1.
