Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and intersimple sequence repeat (ISSR) were assayed to determine the genetic diversity of 44 populations of whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) from Syrian coast.

Eleven random and six ISSR primers were used.

Both random and ISSR primers revealed 86.39 and 88.46% polymorphism, respectively, among 169 and 130 genetic loci amplified.

The dendrograms based on RAPD and ISSR data grouped the 44 populations into three and four clusters, respectively.

The most informative primers were OPR-07, OPA-11 (RAPD) and ISSR6, (AGG)5 (ISSR).

The polymorphism information content (PIC) was 0.387 and 0.309 for RAPD and ISSR, respectively.

The degree of relationship between both sets of genetic similarity data was strong correlation (r = 0.8) revealed a better representation of the relationship than individual markers Therefore, the RAPD and ISSR molecular markers proved to have a high efficiency in detection of B.
