الملخص EN

The purpose of this study was to enhance reading efficiency among 1st year English majors at Misr University for Science and Technology (MUST).

The problem of the study was that 1 st year English majors were not aware of their thinking about some important reading strategies that can help them to be efficient readers.

The participants in the study formed one study group who studied the suggested course based on meta-cognition of reading strategies in Spring 2014/ 2015 semester.

Two instruments were used; a meta-cognition reading strategies inventory and a pre/ post reading efficiency test.

The results of the inventory showed that first year English majors became aware of their thinking of reading strategies.

Results of the reading efficiency test indicated that the suggested course proved to be effective in enhancing some reading strategies (skimming, scanning summarising, pronoun reference and critical thinking) among English majors and helped in developing their reading efficiency
