In 1989, Marrakech (Morocco) saw the creation of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU), an agreement between the heads of state of Morocco, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia and Mauritania.

This historic agreement, promised to promote political and economic unity between the Maghreb countries with a total population of around 100 million.

In addition, its main aim was to create a union, which can negotiate with the European Union, which has always considered the south of the Mediterranean as an area of strategic interest.

At the crossroads of North and South, East and West.

In this article, we aim to provide a clear definition and facts of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership that emerged from the 1995 Barcelona Euro-Mediterranean Conference, in an evolving context of privileged relations between countries not unions.

الملخص FRE
